Hepatitis B Antibody Titer

blood-work-wiki-1

A titer is a laboratory test that measures the amount of antibodies present in a person’s blood. It can be used to determine if a person has had any previous infections, and whether there is a current immunity. Certain employers and guidelines require candidates and employees to undergo titer testing as part of their vaccination policies.

A hepatitis B surface antibody (anti-HBs) titer test will measure the presence of hep B antibodies which is generally interpreted as recovery and subsequent immunity to hep B from infection. These antibodies will also be present after a successful hepatitis B vaccination series. A qualitative hepatitis B antibody test will have either a reactive (immune) or nonreactive (not immune) result. Whereas a quantitative hepatitis B antibody test will include numerical antibody levels.
